Life Insurance When you buy a Life Insurance Policy you have a contract with a life insurance company that "insures" that the company will provide a stated amount upon your death, or periodic income to the beneficiaries you have chosen. Having an insurance policy means a person can create an estate to leave to their family—for very little money. More information > Disability Income Many people disregard the need for disability insurance. The simple fact is, a disability can mean the same, or possibly even greater financial burdens than death. When a person becomes disabled they lose the ability to earn income and they gain the expense of continuing care. Disability insurance replaces a percentage of your earned income if a disability stops you from earning a living. More information > Mortgage Insurance It's really just a life insurance policy. But there is a big difference from the "mortgage insurance" sold by banks and mortgage lenders whose coverage is actually "decreasing term insurance" which means your coverage amount continually decreases as your mortgage debt reduces. That means, if you die, the coverage is just enough to pay off the outstanding amount of the loan. More information > GIC's (Guaranteed Investment Certificates) GIC's are a secure investment guaranteed to preserve your money. Your investment earns interest at a fixed rate, variable rate, or based on a market-linked formula. For people who are concerned about investing securely and preserving their capitol in the case of a financial downturn, GIC's are the investment of choice and a good addition to a conservative portfolio. More information > RRSP's (Registered Retirement Savings Plans) The RRSP is one of Canada's best tax breaks. The sooner you start saving for your retirement, the better off you'll be. Contributions can be made every year but December 31st of the year you turn 71 is the last day you can contribute. More information > RIFF's (Registered Retirement Income Funds) A RRIF is an investment plan, established in accordance with Government of Canada requirements, into which you can transfer registered funds (e.g. from your RSP) without tax liability for the purpose of establishing an income stream for life.
